What is the Scepters National Gospel Awards?

The Scepters National Gospel Awards (SNGA) is an Award event out to celebrate God’s grace in the lives of individuals and organizations who have upheld the name ‘Jesus’ through their talent and skills.

The awards consist of four major Categories and they are: Music, Arts, Science & technology and Post-humus.

According to organizers the SNGA is simply about “making creating proper awareness about the gospel”.

The Scepter- The trophy, the value and the message

The Scepter stands as the title of the trophy for the SNGA.  The scepter is a symbol of authority.  This means the recipient of the scepter is being identified as a success in his/her area of expertise. Also, the winning urges the recipient to keep up the good work and continue to take dominion in his or her relevant field.

The 2011 Awards

The first edition of the SNGA held in the year 2011. Though the team had a few challenges in the areas of sponsorship and logistics, the awards held and the winners were duly recognized.  A success point for the SNGA is that after this event, the scepters have been recognized as part of the profiles of recipients.  After 2011 and its razzmatazz, the SNGA team went back to the drawing board to put together the next SNGA which they say would be a memorable one.

The 2013 Awards- Nominations and Voting

According to organizers, a lot of detailed and structured work has been put into the organization of the SNGA 2013, most especially in the areas of nominations and voting. They say adequate protocol and due process has been followed to ensure credibility and transparency in the nomination and voting processes.

Most of the nomination took place from a series of pre–events that held and were organized by the SNGA committee. Also, adequate publicity has been going on to encourage voting.

Anyone has an opportunity to be nominated for the SNGA; even an artiste has the liberty to nominate him or herself.  According to the scepters structure, people who are involved in music are the ones who can participate in the nominations in that category while in the other categories, random nomination takes place.

It is an SNGA rule that ‘every scepter recipient earns his/her trophy’. The Winning is strictly based on voting from nominees’ own supporters, so every nominee is required to put in adequate publicity and promotion so as to earn votes for themselves.

The three voting platforms for SNGA are SMS, online and Ballot (Ballot voting takes place only in churches).  Online voting ended on the 31st of December 2012 but the SMS voting is still ongoing.  The only category where recipients are rewarded without voting is the recognition awards.

Organizers say there are over 500 nominations and 33 Awards to be given out. “This award ceremony is been geared to be the biggest award in Africa”, they say.

The Big Night- What to expect

The SNGA holds on the 15th of February 2013 by 7pm at Yard 158, Kudirat Abiola way, Ikeja.  Organizers claim it would be a big night with maximum protocol and have promised their guests fun and hospitality right from the entrance to the very last minute of the event.  Attendance to the event they say is open to all. Hosts for the night are: ace TV personality, model, and actor Benjamin Joseph; popular comedian Jedi; actor, Minna Horsefall; and a surprise mystery host who would be made known on that day.

There would be performances by talented music artistes like Tim Godfrey & the extreme crew, Obiwon, BD, Henry Soul, Joan Paul, Kayode Olusoji and many more from all around Nigeria. Also, there would be a special appearance by the elegant stallion Onyeka Onwenu who would be doing some of her love songs alongside Obiwon.

Anyone interested in attending the event should register at the scepters website www.scepters.org.

VIP tickets are in three categories:  the VIP category, VAL category and Table category.  Regular tickets go for N2000 (if gotten in February) and they can be purchased on www.scepters.org.

The team

The team is led by dynamic and passionate JCI (Joel Chidimobi Ifeanyi) who is keen on getting things done in the gospel industry in the areas of entertainment, design and technology.  He emphasized that “the gospel music industry would go far if it would put technology to proper use”.

Currently, the trophy; scepter tours major churches within Lagos, Nigeria on a road show so people can see it up-close and also get the opportunity to vote for their favorite nominees.  The Scepter will touch down at churches like Grace Assembly, Day Star, Christ Embassy and many more.

“We expect that at the end of the event, that Christians achieving excellence in their various industries can finally say, ‘we have recognition, we have an award’ ”.
